The battery is charged, but it seems to have a problem with the switch that activates the motor. So its not a simple switch replacement.
I would say i have used the ratchet enough to have paid for the original cost, but I won't be purchasing another skil ratchet any time soon. but overall a total waste of time when you need to use the ratchet and it stops working while your in the middle of an assembly job and have to stop and dig out other tools to finish your work.
The ratchet is fantastic and a real time saver when it works. It's a real shame the tool just lays down and dies.
I have owned the ratchet for almost 8 months and used it on a daily basis and have had nothing but problems with the ratchet randomly not working. I disassembled the unit to have a look at the switch and possibly install a new one only to find that the switch is soldered to a circuit board.
I have read on many other tool websites about customer complaints that the tool just stops working.
On water pumps and timing belts removal and installation, this tool is a time saver. I have used this for over a year now and have been using this tool almost everyday as a Auto service technician. I have used other cordless ratchet and there is one that is also cool but it is pricey and bulkier than this one. Fifthly, I love this product. 7thly, I love it. Very portable and handy - It comes with extra bits and sockets which i have not used because as a mechanic I have plenty of sockets and bits that I use for this tool. First off, It's operated by a lithium ion rechargeable battery that i can use it any time i need without worrying that it has no power.
You can use it as a manual ratchet and use the power to speed up the loosening or the tightening. On oil and transmission pans - this tool is a time and thread saver as well. It wont over-torque your oil pan bolts. Sixthly, I love it. I used it to remove bolts and nuts and screws when I do maintenance, tune up - very nice tool to remove and install spark plugs. Fourthly, The sound is not annoying like other cordless or air ratchet. 8thly I love it really.
I just use an adapter to fit a 3/8 spark plug socket.
Charging is easy and quick also.
Secondly, the construction seems rigid and sturdy and it looks sophisticated to me and it does not look like it is just a $50 tool either.
Loose a spark plug by hand flip the switch and then tight it back on with power then torque with hand.
Promise.
Lastly, You will love it too.
I have yet to see a greater cordless tool than this one to doubt myselt that this review is not reliable.
You can use it to loosen nuts without using its power only by just manually turning it as manual ratchet then you can just flip the switch to turn its loosening torque to remove the nuts or screws whatever fastener there may be.
Thirdly, I love the look and feel of it, the weight is so balanced and the grip is astounding - it wont slip out of your hand.
I love the concept and functionality, but after having the second one quit on me shortly after purchasing it. The magnets in the motors ended up in little pieces.
A good company would have recalled them or at least replaced their defective motors. So, I went to Skil website to get parts and everything for this ratchet has been discontinued.
I did not drop them to cause this or abuse them in any way. I have a lot of Skil tools but in the future I probably will not purchase any more from them or their Bosch counterpart only because of the way they have dealt with this ratchet.
I have purchased 2 of these. I disassembled both ratchets only to find the same issue.
Skil really dropped the ball on this one, I would rather pay a bit more and have a quality tool.
Worked great for about a week and then just stopped working. Nobody seems to carry them anymore which makes me suspect they had a major design flaw that the manufacturer does not want to recall.
Dead as a door knob. Used very little, Didn't have it too long. Mine is broken, too. Take your chances.
